Flitzer Z-1 Type S StummelFlitzer

StummelFlitzer

The StummelFlitzer is designed for those individuals who wish to take recreational flying to the level of intermediate aerobatics.  This slightly smaller and heavier member of the Flitzer Series is intended for use with more powerful engines in the 60 to 110 horsepower range.  The structure has been strengthened to withstand +6.0 / -3.0 G loading, and ailerons have been added to the upper wing to improve roll performance.  The StummelFlitzer has a unique style; a longer nose and rounded flying surfaces speak of a more powerful purpose.  The aeroplane has been subtly re-proportioned to improve the aerobatic performance, while retaining the easy handling and gentle landing characteristics.

A provisional variation of the StummelFlitzer fitted with the Rotec radial engine has been developed for those wishing to recreate this classic style and sound of the 1920's aerobatic sport biplane. (above)

The straightforward and conventional construction techniques of the entire Flitzer Series has been retained, however a greater use of laminated bows and an angled cabine strut add slightly to the complexity of construction.  All materials are readily available, and many components are common to the other designs of the Flitzer Series.

To construct the Flitzer Z-1 Type S, one must purchase both a set of Basic Plans of the Flitzer Z-21, and a Supplemental Plan set for the Z-1 Type S "StummelFlitzer".  The basic procedures and details common to the entire Flitzer Series are described in the Basic Plans, while the specific dimensions and configurations of the StummelFlitzer are addressed in the Supplemental Plans.

StummelFlitzer

Note: No flying prototype of the Flitzer Z-1 Type S "StummelFlitzer" currently exists, although several are under construction.  Until a representative example of the StummelFlitzer has been constructed and test flown in a comprehensive flight test program, the descriptions and plans for this design are considered 'provisional', and subject to change, revision, or possibly cancellation. Persons purchasing plans are advised to register their names and addresses with Flitzer Aero Publishing Co, and to remain in contact with the vendor, such that any revision, updates and information can be passed on.  Updates, changes and deletions to the plans will be forwarded to persons on record, as they become available.  The price of plans is non-refundable.
